For those of you who don't pay too much attention to the who?, why?, what? and where? of how Drag Day comes together each year. One person has featured heavily from the outset.

That person in question is James "Jimbo" Twaite, the team have known James personally for the past 20 years and have a good few stories to tell of our early adventures across the UK and Europe, but we won't go into those, you'll have to ask James personally when you see him in August!

Starting out at Big Boys Toys in Thurrock James moved with the team over to SSP (Street Style and Power) who eventually were purchased by VW Heritage. It was at Heritage where James forged his relationship with the very first Drag Day and we have been lucky enough to enjoy that support for the past 5 years ( thank you to ALL of the team at Heritage ).

2017 brought many changes for us, it also brought many changes for James, he and Christopher Heinecke ( Director of Bugwelder ) banged their heads together and the result wasn't two sore heads, but a move for James from sunny Brighton all the way over to sunny Cuxhaven in Germany.

James is now part of the amazing Bugwelder team and it didn't take long for him to settle. For those of you unacquainted with Bugwleder. You can get yourselves aquanted by visiting the team here at Bugwelder.com.

As you will find, they are a one stop shop for all your resto, project and vw related needs, furthermore they ship frequently to Ireland with excellent rates so be sure to drop them a line for all your needs.

One of the first jobs on the agenda was to contact the team at Drag Day!

After a lengthy conversation with Chris and James, we were absolutely blown away when the Bugwelder team offered their support for this years event. Continuing on from where he left off, James has forged a new working relationship with us and Bugwelder.

"Jimbo" absolutely gets the ethos of the event and what it brings to so many people, it is without question the MUST DO event on the calendar for so many. The trophy and prize pot has always been fantastic, in fact the biggest motorsport related pot outside of any professional series in Ireland, we have been privileged to have had many companies and individuals in the UK, VW and motor scene donate or make amazing trophies and sponsor us year on year and we are truly grateful for all the support.

2018 is set to enjoy even more support, Bugwelder will be sponsoring the event, there will be a few prizes up for grabs, we won't say too much at this stage but one major prize will be the "BUGWELDER CHOICE" award.

Will that award go to a show car in the "Departure Lounge" or one of our race cars on the strip?

You'll have to come and find out in August.

In the meantime, a HUGE thank you to Chris, James and everyone at Bugwleder. Your support this year is massively appreciated and we are sure, the racers and public alike will enjoy all you bring to Drag Day just as much as us.

Thank you so much guys.

The Team.
